Valentine’s Day Date in Charlotte

View Gallery 5 Photos

Charlotte has so many fabulous restaurants, hotels, and bars it’s difficult to choose just what to do to to celebrate Valentine’s Day! Well, hubby and I got a babysitter and were more than happy to do the “research” for you. Whether you’re single, married or somewhere in between, I ensure your V-Day will be free of clichés and not at all boring with this Charlotte Valentine’s Day idea.

The best part: once you arrive at The Ivey’s Hotel, drinks and dinner are only steps away.

Check in: The Ivey’s Hotel

Escape the kids, laundry, and the never ending to-do list and experience a home away from home at Charlotte’s The Ivey’s Hotel. Located in heart of Uptown Charlotte, a block from the Trade and Tryon, the boutique hotel not only has stellar rooms, but also an entire property to explore!

Although the hotel only opened last April, it’s building has a rich history. Until 1990 the people of Charlotte would walk through the very same doors to visit J.B. Ivey & Company Department Store. Open for 90 years, the store closed and has transformed into a luxurious hotel that’s perfect for your next date night. The campus includes a guest library and book collection, gardens on all sides of the home {four and half acres}, and several different spots throughout the home {and outside} to sit, relax, and enjoy! I personally, adored the rocking chairs on the front “porch” so relaxing and charming.

This 42-room hotel blends Charlotte’s history with a new, modern twist with it’s lush decor.  We snapped photos of the beautiful lobby that welcomes you to this contemporary classic hotel.

My husband caught me in my natural habitat (on my phone working) in The Ivey’s Hotel lobby.

If you’re wondering what to pack for your get away, I have a few recommendations. I adore florals and flowing dresses, but always need to wear a leather jacket or chunky boots along with them.  I went to Anthropology at South Park Mall where I found this Floral Tiered Maxi.

I also love these floral dresses as an option for this Valentine’s Day fashion.

I wore my favorite Lucky Brand Bashina Perforated Bootie and a vintage leather coat to give my look it’s necessary edge. But shop these booties below for different colors and styles.

Have a drink: Sophie’s Lounge

We had some time before our dinner reservations so we decided to enjoy our sans kids time at Sophie’s Lounge.  This is not a hotel bar you skip: this is a must stop spot.  The intimate and eclectic bar is a great place to begin or end the nights festivities.

I would recommend grabbing a drink a Sophie’s if you’re looking for inspiration to update your current home decor. If you’re too busy, don’t worry! I’ve supplied some pieces inspired by Sophie’s Bar to make it easy for you.

Dig in: Dinner at 5Church

Valentine’s Day is all about eating your heart out.  We could have ventured outside of the hotel but we decided to check out 5Church, a restaurant that is attached to the hotel.

Since I was not doing the cooking or the cleaning I ordered a three course meal. I started with their salad (as a mom trying to get her pre-mom body back does), but got the most out of my Valentine’s feast by ordering the Filet Mignon with crushed Yukon golden potatoes and roasted Brussel sprouts. It was delicious! I did not have any room left for desert but I somehow managed to finish my S’mores Trifle. Myles ordered the Milk Chocolate Pretzel Bar, and I have to say the S’mores wins hands down.

Neither of us wanted our night to end! The aesthetics, drinks, and food were fabulous. A little advice: Book and make reservations as soon as possible.  Valentine’s Day is only a couple weeks away.  So if you want to stay local yet feel like you have been swept away this Valentine’s Day I highly recommend looking no further than North Tryon Street.
