I attended my first Giants vs. Panthers NFL game on Sunday, and man it was intense! Every fan in that crowd was decked out in their football team’s colors from their face paint to their sock colors! Team colors usually come in pairs. It was like a sea of Panthers Blue and Black with a slight mix of Giants blue and red. It became very apparent to me that football fans bleed their team’s colors.
I had to do a little research as to how team colors are chosen and what are the top ten football color combinations. It turns out color choice of teams usually follows the rule of tincture from heraldry
The primary colors such as orange, purple, blue, red, and green are paired with a color representing a metal (often black, white brown, silver/gold). Sometimes primary colors are mixed together such as orange/blue, red/green, or blue/yellow. Some teams play on Nationalism and use the colors of our flags, red/white/blue.
Lastly the primary color of the team colors is emphasized on home uniforms, this helps avoid confusion when playing a team with similar colors.
So I’ve broken down the top ten football team color combinations that you can take some color inspiration from!
Navy and Gold
Orange and White
Black and Blue
