Thanksgiving is next week! I am dying with excitement! Mostly because Thanksgiving means being together with friends and family members that I don’t get to see often!! But most importantly also because I get to eat turkey (for 4 days straight). I have been getting things together, laying out the menu but most importantly I have been planning the perfect tablescape.
This year we are hosting a small gathering with lots of kids. So my tablescape needs to be less fancy and more practical. That way when the food hits the table there isn’t so much worry about spilling items on antique napkins or tablecloths.
Usually I go with a traditional table cloth, crystal glass wear, and brown accents. But this year I threw all those rules out. I wanted to throw some color into the mix this year and am so glad I did. The outcome makes my family friendly Thanksgiving much more appropriate! This year I used deep reds to accent my Thanksgiving tablescape. It looks so rich against my neutral decor. It will also easily transition into Christmas, because let’s be honest; Christmas decorations are coming out the night of Thanksgiving. So go beyond the burnt orange, yellows, and browns to add some much needed color into your Thanksgivng tablescape.
Use paper placemats for the kids tables or even for the adults. They make for easy clean up and provide fun activities while people patiently wait for the turkey to be passed. This also provides a great opportunity to write down what you are thankful for this year!
Unusual Containers for Centerpieces
Soup tureens and saucers make a purposeful and interesting element to your display. Footed dishes and bowls with water-soaked florists foam and a variety of flowers add both texture and color! Add a few real pumpkins and you have a chic yet functional centerpieces (especially if you need to dump them out to use for extra side dishes).
Hopefully these easy and practical Thanksgiving tabelscape ideas add eleganance non stressful Thanksgiving centerpieces. Including natural elements, candle displays, and more, these Thanksgiving decorations will be a highlight on your holiday table!
