Hey y’all I’m Kayce Hunt! (Midwesterner turned Southerner)
My background: I have worked as a Senior Financial Analyst on the revenue side, expense side, as well as owning the financials of an entire business unit.
Where did you go to school and what did you think you would be doing after graduation? I went to school at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. This is where I discovered my love for data and analytics as it involves finance and business. I definitely thought I would be a financial analyst of sorts, but knew one day I wanted to be CFO.
Fun fact about me: Water sports are my favorite. Whether it is wakeboarding, skiing, or attempting to surf(only done it three times…successful all three times, but no expert) I can’t ever get enough of adventures on the water.
About startup life
Thoughts on startup life so far? It is an absolute rush, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I can honestly say I have learned so much more in the past few months about myself and about what goes into building a business that you only get from experiencing it and educating yourself on areas you need to learn more on.
What advice would you give to someone else considering startup life? First, I would say make sure you believe in the company and the team. This makes long hours and hard work absolutely worth it because you believe in what you are doing. Secondly, understand the commitment it will take and have the support of your loved one’s, as this journey is not for the faint of heart.
What is the biggest challenge? I would definitely say time will be your biggest challenge. Getting everything done that you need to and balancing the other aspects of your life.
How did you come on board? CEO and founder Sam Smith and I played flag football together. After our game one night she began explaining to me about Vishion. She knew some of my background and asked me to think of coming on as CFO to Vishion. As this is an idea and company I believe in, I gave her my yes a few days later.
How do you contribute to Vishion? I am the CFO and Head of Vishionary. My job is to be in charge of all financials and projections, as well as grow the Vishionary blog and test traction strategies.
What makes you most excited about the mobile application? I am so excited to see the application grow from start to finish(always evolving and growing of course) and to see the excitement of consumers using the app. I can tell you right now, this is absolutely an app I would use, and I believe many others are just like me.
Starting a company in Charlotte
How did you end up in Charlotte? My best friend whom I worked with at IBM in Minnesota had moved down here, and upon visiting her I realized this was the place I wanted to be. So, five months later, I had secured a job and started my life in the Queen City.
Why do you think Charlotte is the ideal location for Vishion? I think it’s the ideal location because we truly have the opportunity to help grow the startup scene here which is definitely in its infancy in comparison to places like San Francisco ad New York. It also is a very good representation of other cities, so we can test our app here and then expand based on insights we have found in Charlotte.
What resource would you recommend for a new local startup to get its footing? I would recommend Eventbrite as that is where the events I have attended with our CEO have been from.
