Local Spotlight: Firefly Boutique

Boutiques tend to be on the pricier side — as they should be to an extent. Pieces that cannot be found in the stores of a mall are scattered amongst one-of-a-kind shops, creating a special bond between customers and retailers. Each location comes with a story attached, what inspired the owners to take the leap of faith in starting a business.

About Firefly

Taylor: “Firefly is a family owned business by myself, my mom, and my dad. We all are from up in the tri-state area and have been in Charlotte for about 18 years. We all come from a business background (sales, marketing, customer service, inventory) so wanted to open our own business and provide something unique to the operation. Currently we all work full time outside of the store. My mom teaches in the morning and works at the store most afternoons. I work as a Recruiter during the week, help out on the weekends, and do all the social media for the most part. My dad works in sales and helps bring that expertise to our purchasing and is our part time handyman, so it is truly a team effort.”

Why did you want to open Firefly Boutique?

Taylor: “We have been in the area now for a long time and have loved boutique shopping, but it was very difficult especially me being a college grad, to be able to shop at boutiques with my budget. We wanted to open Firefly to provide affordable options for women of all shapes and sizes.”

What makes your store special?

Taylor: “Firefly is special because we are one of the only boutiques in the area that have a brick and mortar location that carries sizes S-3XL. Our goal is to make everyone feel beautiful and provide options for women of all shapes and sizes. Also, I think we are special for our price point. The entire store is under $75 with the majority of our items between the $30-45 range.”

Is there a theme to your store? (AKA — is there a certain style you cater to?)

Taylor: “No particular theme or style we have customers from age 13-75 so we have a wide assortment of styles because of that. We are always open to suggestions and try to meet our customers needs . Also we try to always keep some off-season pieces available during the year. So in the fall/winter we have a small summer selection for those going on vacations and in the spring/summer we have a small fall/winter section so that if you are traveling north or like to wear long sleeves year round you can.”

What’s your favorite thing in your store right now?

Taylor: “Being a small business we love to support other small businesses, so my personal favorites are the items we feature from local businesses. I absolutely love candles and we have two locally made candle lines, Farmer and Belle (FAB) and Charlotte Candle Co., which are fantastic. Not only do they smell good but they last a long time and there is a wide variety of scents. Also, our jewelry selection is very unique and includes a local jewelry company, Neon Love Story. Kendle’s handemade jewelry is so different and no piece is the same, really and our customers absolutely love the fact that they can come in and complete the outfit that they buy with all the jewelry options. Outside of that I am more of a fall kind of girl (I love those fuzzy sweaters) personally, but I love the bright colored pieces of the spring season!”

What is your favorite thing about North Carolina?

Taylor: “A few different things. 1. The food- We have lived all over NC and the food is awesome. 2. The sports – We are all huge sports fans so having everything from football to hockey in the area is really cool. 3. The fact that there is beach, city, and mountains all within the same state is absolutely amazing.”

Favorite local Restaurant?

Taylor: “So hard to pick. We love La Unica for our Mexican fix and they have a few locations throughout Charlotte. Due Amici for pizza, and Midwood Smokehouse for BBQ (has nothing on B’s BBQ in Greenville though).”

Favorite Brewery or local spot to grab a drink/coffee?

Taylor: “Hoppin’ in South End is one of the new favorites just for the variety and the ability to choose how much you want. Also, Sycamore is definitely up there as a favorite.”

Favorite influencer or person you follow on social media for inspiration?

Taylor: “We get inspiration from a ton of different people. Create and Cultivate because as a women based business their message is inspiring. Also, we get a lot of inspiration from the local bloggers we work with. They all have great style and their posts always make me want to try something new or are so relatable and inspiring.”
§  Sandra Erath (@erathsandra) “She is absolutely stunning and her posts cover a little bit of everything which makes it so easy to read. Also her Instagram is a lot of fashion and traveling that always has us envious.”
§  Lindsey Doyle (@lindseyinthequeencity) “Her smile and personality is infectious. She shares a lot of her fashion tips (helpful hints for those on a budget too).”
§  Logan Russell (@lolo_russell) “Curvy blogger who has a lot of great fashion and beauty tips.”
§  Shannon (Uptowngirlclt) “Her Instagram literally makes me want to go eat everything she has posted. I love to learn about Charlotte through Shannon there are so many things I would’ve never known about or thought about doing without seeing it on her Instagram!”
