Get your sundresses, hats, and picnic baskets ready because this Saturday, it’s off to the races! This marks the 23rd Queen’s Cup Steeplechase. Queen’s Cup is the premiere, most anticipated social and sporting event of the year. With everything from amazing tailgates, fancy hats and bow ties to powerful thoroughbreds galloping over 4’6″ obstacles, it’s an event you and your family don’t want to miss.
The Queen’s Cup has something for everybody. The Queen’s Cup has various packages to choose from. They have even added a tailgating for young professionals aka millennials. Which includes bottomless beer (sponsored by Stella Artois) and wine, live music, and corn hole.
Since 1996, the Charlotte Steeplechase Foundation, the organizing sponsor of the event, has donated over $800,000 to local and regional charities. Attending this event means the Foundation has that much more to donate to those in the community who need it most!
Hold your horses, time to talk fashion.
Attire on the racecourse is more of what I’ll be paying attention to. The field will be filled with sun dresses fabulous hats and sunglasses for ladies and dress shirts, sport coats, bow ties, khakis and polo shirts for men. My family and I were fortunate enough to tour the grounds to get the lay of the land and fashion ideas before the big day. Spoiler alert flat soled shoes are highly recommended and stiletto heels are not!
There are not any rules and regulations on what you can and cannot wear to this race, but it’s always more fun to play the part and get dressed up! A fun hat is a MUST for the ladies along with a sensible pair of shoes because I learned the hard way, heels and the beautiful green grass do not go well. Hats are not required but definitely help protect you and your littles against harmful sun rays. And in the case of showers, you’re covered!
You can either go sophisticated, elegant, or laid back for this event. You could wear an off the shoulder, form fitting, or loose fit dress! All depending on what package you decided to go with and what attractions you’ll be visiting.
Remember flats are probably your best option but not your only option. Here are some great ideas for the race.
Even those gorgeous big hats won’t the sunshine out of your eyes. So to keep up with those horses you’ll need some shades.
I love a good clutch, it’s not too big yet can hold all your essentials.
Bowties just make the entire outfit just that much more “southern”.
