Bridesmaids Dressed in the Pantone’s 2018 Color of the Year: Ultra Violet

As a single 24-year-old, wedding planning is not exactly on my radar. I dream of my wedding day in the way any girl does. There is a Pinterest board of ideas on my account, but the pictures I re-pin becoming a reality seems pretty out of reach at this moment in my life. I think about the most important and expensive dress I probably will ever wear, an appropriate color scheme, and most importantly, the man who I am walking down the aisle toward.

Never a Bridesmaid

Bridesmaids dresses tend to have a stereotype attached — they are not going to be cute. The bride tells her best friends what they have to wear while each of them possess an individualized sense of style. I have never been a bridesmaid. Besides my parents choosing my outfits when I was young and the exception of a few family professional photo shoots, I maintain the freedom to clothe myself how I please. I honestly do not like the idea of someone telling me what to wear, I do not think anyone does. But as we all know, a wedding day is about the bride.

2018 Color of the Year

“The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more that ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today.” – Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.

As of now, I am not sure what color I will choose to dress my bridesmaids. I am also extremely indecisive, so the decision-making for my wedding will be brutal to say the last. Every year, the Pantone Color Institute singles out one color. A shade to represent a focus for the upcoming 365 days. The 2018 color of the year is PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet. If you happen to be reading this, I encourage you to check out Pantone’s website. I have never before read more inspiring descriptions of colors. This year’s pigment may just be what future brides are looking for.

“Inventive and imaginative, Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come. Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.” (

Check out some perfectly purple pieces and products below. An ultra violet lipstick is a trend plan on purchasing.

“Historically, there has been a mystical or spiritual quality attached to Ultra Violet. The color is often associated with mindfulness practices, which offer a higher ground to those seeking refuge from today’s over-stimulated world. The use of purple-toned lighting in meditation spaces and other gathering places energizes the communities that gather there and inspire connection.” (
